Lyrics

Tall windows

She lived in a house with very tall windows, you could see her walking around
The house looked over the old canal that runs right through this town
I dreamed of flying through those windows, taking her into my arms
But when I did I knew what would happen, I’d set off all the alarms
Why is she cut off from the world, her of all people, beautiful girl
Why is she cut off from the world where we live

She went out each day in a coach with four horses to where I never could tell
I tried to find out from several sources, even tried ringing the bell
I dreamed of flying to wherever she went but they flew as fast as the wind
And if I caught up I knew that they’d never let me in
Why is she cut off from the world, her of all people, beautiful girl
Why is she cut off from the world where I live

Now I’m much older, I’ve settled down, she is living there still
Is she happy in her magical world, I hope she is fulfilled
I still dream of flying through those windows, chasing the coach to the sky
Different places, separate lives, I will never know why
Why is she cut off in her world, her of all people, beautiful girl
Why is she cut off in the world where she lives
